Non-professional photographers will be able to visit the grounds here of this Historic Hotel of America and submit their photos taken under the theme of “Springtime Under The Crescent Moon.”

Moyer Named Arkansas Hotelier of the Year
(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – During the recent Arkansas Hospitality Association’s “Stars of the Industry 2009” banquet, Jack V. Moyer (pictured left) was named Hotelier of the Year when he was presented the AHA’s coveted Golden Key Award. Moyer is vice-president of operations and development for Eureka Springs’ two historic hotels, The 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa and The 1905 Basin Park Hotel; and proprietor for Harrison’s historic hotel, The 1929 Hotel Seville. Fellow Eurekan and president of the Arkansas Lodging Association, Jed Bullock (pictured right), made the presentation at ceremonies held at North Little Rock’s Wyndham Riverfront Hotel.

(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – During the early 1930s, “guests” of what is now The 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa, a Historic Hotel of America located in Eureka Springs (AR), slept in the rooms… but they also went to class and some of them played basketball. One of them played basketball very well. In fact, Mabel Williams, of Jacksonville (AR), took her college team, the Crescent Comets, all the way to a national championship game in Wichita (KS) where they lost the title game by only one point to a team led by All-American Babe Didrikson.

FACTS ABOUT THE HISTORIC CRESCENT HOTEL
The Crescent Hotel was built in 1886 by former Gov. Powell C. Clayton at a cost of about $284,000, which would have been several million dollars if built today. Construction was begun in 1884 using white limestone brought from a nearby White River quarry.
